Helge Hoel (PhD) is senior lecturer in work psychology at Manchester Business School, the University of Manchester, where he is an active member of the Fairness at Work Research Group. He has carried out several large research projects on workplace bullying and harassment, including a nationwide study of bullying in Great Britain and a study on the effectiveness of anti-bullying interventions. He has contributed to a number of books, journal articles and reports in the area of violence, bullying and harassment, including a report for the European Foundation, as well as work commissioned by the ILO on the cost of stress and violence at work and a series of reports on stress/violence within various service industries. He was joint editor of the book ‘Bullying and Emotional Abuse in the Workplace: international perspectives in Research and Practice’ (with Ståle Einarsen, Dieter Zapf and Cary Cooper). Recently he has also been pursuing research of a cross-disciplinary nature, with papers published on issues such as bullying and industrial relations, the effectiveness of anti-bullying regulations, and anti-social behaviour in male service working environments. On a more practical level he has acted as adviser to the Norwegian Government and recently led courses on investigation with Ståle Einarsen.
